The Inaugural Ryder Cup of Boules
The very first Ryders Cup of Boules took place on Sunday, 28th September, in mostly sunny conditions, as teams from Heckmondwike and Rochdale battled it out for the new Trophy Cup. In total, 32 players took part across both sides.
Rochdale made a flying start, racing into an 8–2 lead after the first two rounds. Heckmondwike rallied in the doubles, with 2 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws in what proved to be a fiercely competitive stage.
After the final round of triples, Rochdale were ahead 12–8, making them strong favourites going into the singles. But, in true Ryder Cup fashion, Heckmondwike refused to give in. Their comeback had Rochdale rocking, and with just four singles matches left the score stood at 15–13. Ultimately, Rochdale held their nerve, closing out the match 19–13 to claim the first-ever Ryder Cup of Boules.
