Three members of Rochdale Pétanque took part in the La British Open in Nottingham
Ian Mike and Daniel won 2 out of 3 games in the morning which determined the order for the afternoon knockout competitions using the Swiss ranking system.
Mike said : Our wins and quality of opposition meant that we ranked 7th (out of 42 teams) and entered the main knockout competition.
Despite taking an early lead in our last 16 game, a few bad ends later in the game cost us defeat and we dropped into the consolage of the main draw. In the consolage quarter final we dropped 4 points in the first end but then played probably our best team pétanque of the day, dropping only 2 more points against a very good team and advancing to the semi final.
Unfortunately we ran out of steam in the semi final and were comfortably beaten meaning that we ended the day as 11th/12th overall.
I’m really pleased with our overall performance and we’ve beaten some very good teams.
