Over the last six months, members of Rochdale Pétanque have been taking part in a Singles Ladder Challenge. The aim of the challenge was to give players practice and help grow confidence in singles matches.
31 players challenged each other in a bid to climb to the top, knocking each other down along the way, with the top four going on to play in the finals. Rankings and scores were displayed on our website so that players could keep track of their progress and plan their next challenge. Thank you to Darren for designing the program that made this run so smoothly.
Rankings were ever-changing from week to week, as were the weather conditions, but everyone showed great commitment to the challenges.
The Semi-Finals between the top four were held today in yet more challenging weather:
1st place Ian v 4th place Linda – Ian won the match 13–7
2nd place Francois v 3rd place Dan – Dan won the match 13–6
In the final, playing for Gold and Silver were Dan and Ian, with Ian taking the gold medal and the trophy after an amazing win against a tough opponent, 13–1.
Playing for Bronze, Francois and Linda faced each other, with Francois taking 3rd place with a 13–9 win.
Well done to all the finalists and Congratulations Ian.
Thank you to everyone who took part. I think we are all agreed that we don’t much like singles matches… but we are now better prepared for them!
