Rochdale Milnrow travelled to Nottinghamshire to face Mansfield Pétanque in the second round of the PE Euro Plate. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Titchfield Park, Mansfield boasts an excellent playing area with a variety of terrains, and their members gave us a very warm welcome.
Play began with the triples, where Mansfield took an early advantage by winning both games.
In the doubles, Rochdale’s Christine and Eddie — our youngest club player at just 12 years old — delivered a fantastic performance to secure a win. Despite some excellent boules from the Rochdale side, this proved to be their only victory of the match. As Mansfield, who are a very impressive team, went on to win 4–1 overall, progressing to the next round where they will face Trafford A.
After the match, both teams enjoyed sandwiches and cake, which helped soften the disappointment, and rounded off the day with a friendly doubles game that was great fun for everyone involved.
